Android co-founder takes OEM entrepreneurship seriously and teases new devices

Android Inc. co-founder and former CEO Andy Rubin (Andy Rubin) has teased a new ultra-thin smartphone on Twitter. This is the first device we saw from Rubin’s new startup, called “Essential”.
Bloomberg published detailed information about Essential in a report in January. According to the report, Rubin is currently building a consumer hardware company, starting with a “40-person team full of new Google employees from Apple and Alphabet.” According to reports, the company is still in stealth mode, but when it goes public, Rubin will be announced as CEO.
Bloomberg describes Rubin’s company as “a platform company that aims to connect multiple devices together”, and in addition to smart home products, “the core of the system is a high-end smartphone with a large screen edge-to-edge , Lack of surrounding baffle.” After this photo, the phone part must be correct. The report claims that the device will use “artificial intelligence” in some way, and that it will be equipped with magnetic modular connectors.
Before being acquired by Google in 2005, Rubin co-founded Android Inc. He led the Google department until 2013, overseeing the release of each new version, including Android 4.0. After establishing a failed robotics department within Google, Rubin left the company and founded a technology incubator called “Playground Global.” Although Rubin’s most recent experience is dealing with software, he has extensive experience in building mobile phone hardware. Before joining Android and Google, he was the co-founder and CEO of Danger Inc., which created Danger Hiptop/T-Mobile Sidekick, a series of devices that were all the rage in the 2000s.
In a tweet, Rubin said: “I am very excited about the development of this situation. I am eager to let more people master it.” According to Bloomberg News, the device is scheduled to be launched “around the middle of this year.”
