Davis-Standard introduced an upgraded version of the MEDD extruder design for medical tubing applications. The stylish new design is based on the first MEDD model to simplify the cleaning, maintenance and operator accessibility of the extruder.
MEDD is Davis-Standard’s iconic extruder, suitable for close tolerance medical tubing applications, including microporous, multi-lumen tubing and catheter tubing. Operational advantages include compact footprint, interchangeable barrel components, linear machine movement, replaceable feeding part lining, Windows PLC control system, and the ability to process a variety of thermoplastic materials and high-temperature resins.
“The new MEDD design is essentially a more complex version of our first model,” explains Kevin Dipollino, senior product manager for Davis’s standard pipe, profile and tube business. “The electrical enclosure/machine base and cigar cover are now stainless steel to provide a smoother surface and easier to clean. In addition, we have improved cable management with specified cable lengths, cable storage, defined cable routing, and improved configurations. We An overhaul flip door has also been added for easy access when changing barrels to simplify material discharge and accessibility.”
A significant advantage of MEDD is the ability to quickly change barrels to speed up material replacement or barrels of different diameters. This extruder is designed with a horizontal slider that can easily move the motor and barrel section to match downstream customers, as well as a cantilever function at the front of the extruder for loading and unloading the barrel to the cart during conversion superior.
In addition, the new model also has two-way air hood vents to improve air circulation. MEDD offers three product ranges: ¾ – 1 inch, 1-1.25 inch and 1.25-1.5 inch.
