Automatic and manual ceramic ball valves provide a cost-effective alternative to solenoid valves and have better wear resistance. Various innovations mean that these valves are now more suitable for more applications than ever before.
Lynette Morrey, a South African boiler manufacturer and water treatment component supplier, and the sole official agent of Runxin Water Treatment System in South Africa, Allmech Business Development Director, explained that Runxin’s patented ceramic ball valves are used in various application chemical plants such as sewage treatment plants, Paper mill and irrigation system. “They can be safely used with gasoline, compressed air, gas, and most alkaline liquids and acids,” she said. “Ceramic valves are ideal for filtration and softener systems used in water treatment.”
They are available in two-wire, three-wire and three-way (L-shaped) variants with DN 15 – DN 50 threaded or glued joint options. The ceramic rotating ball and valve seat are processed in such a way that fluid or air will not leak through the ball. It can withstand wet conditions and is corrosion and chemical resistant. “Ceramic ball valves can withstand higher flow rates, water pressures up to 10 bar and temperatures up to 80°C,” Morrey said.
“The time control ball valve is very suitable for automatic drainage, or irrigation that needs to be carried out within a set time period every day, and can even ensure that shower water can be provided in the locker room at a specific time of the day,” Morey said.
There are two options. One is to control the valve by setting the duration of the opening and closing time, and use a countdown timer. Another option is that the valve can be set to open and close at a set time and a specific duration. From Monday to Sunday, it can be set up to five times a day (1 to 5 times).
“There is an indicator light to show whether the valve is open or closed. If the power is turned off for some reason, the current settings will be automatically saved for three days,” Morrey said.
“Many industrial processes, such as power generation, mining, food manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing, use a series of ball valves and can benefit from position feedback valves in these applications,” Morey said. “This is an adjustable ball valve with a TCN-02T actuator.”
The angle and angle of the ball opening can be determined by the PLC, and the flow, temperature and pressure can also be adjusted.
The position feedback valve can precisely adjust the accurate angle of the opening and closing of the ball valve, avoiding the inconvenience caused by mechanical positioning. If the ball valve is not functioning properly or gets stuck, they can also reduce errors and give an immediate alarm. In addition, because they use standard connections, they are easy to install, adjust or replace. They can be mounted on the brackets of plastic or metal ball valves and are ideal for indoor and outdoor use (although they require protection when exposed to extreme sunlight or weather conditions).
The position feedback signal range is 0-5V, and the control signal is 0.5V. The valve size is DN25, and the internal thread is connected to DC24V.
“Ensure that the ball valve is resistant to the fluid or chemicals it will come into contact with, and consider the quality of the water. Large particles (greater than 0.2 mm) or sediments in the water require a pre-filter system to avoid valve damage,” Morey suggested. “Also keep in mind that if the valve is opened by an unauthorized technician, the manufacturer’s warranty will usually be invalidated.”
