Valve expert GEMÜ has redesigned its tried-and-tested butterfly valve and now offers the wafer-type GEMÜ R480 Victoria.
In the process of redesigning the GEMÜ R480 Victoria series, professional teams from the design, product management, quality management and production departments have improved a number of technical specifications, and at the same time further expanded GEMÜ’s manufacturing capabilities. Thanks to the investment in in-house processing and coating expertise, Gemi can now better control the production processes that are critical to quality.
The valve body is milled in a clamping position in our highly automated valve production facility located in Gemül Valve China. This allows precise shape and position tolerances to be achieved. In addition, because the butterfly valve is processed in-house, GEMÜ can better control the quality of the butterfly valve. Another advantage of in-house manufacturing is that the delivery time is more flexible, which means that availability can be better controlled.
Due to its flow optimization and sleek disc design, the redesigned GEMÜ R480 Victoria butterfly valve achieves a higher flow coefficient. This reduces pressure loss and makes the butterfly valve more energy efficient. The constant compression of valves on shafts and bearings means that they can greatly save operating costs because they require lower operating torque. In addition, the PTFE-coated steel bushings in the shaft and shaft area further reduce torque, thereby helping to save costs.
Having a high-quality coating does not start with the selection or application of the coating. Pretreatment such as sandblasting, heating, and robotics are also key factors in the entire coating process. Using the swirling sintering method, the valve body is immersed in a basin filled with epoxy resin powder. The powder melts on the preheated valve body and is therefore connected to each other to form a durable surface.
According to ISO 12944-6 C5M, the layer thickness of the valve is at least 250 µm, ensuring consistent corrosion protection even in the lining area. Compared with static powder coating, the eddy current sintering method greatly improves the adhesion of the coating to metal.
Another feature of the GEMÜ R480 Victoria series is the technical optimization of its gasket to improve sealing. The inclusion of additional materials in the valve seat, shaft and shaft area-as well as grooves in the flow direction for reliable liner fixation-improves the sealing and slip resistance of the butterfly valve. The fixing points of the lining on the valve body make it easy to change the lining and read the lining material, even during installation.
In addition, due to the insertion slope on the inner lining, parts can be easily and accurately replaced when maintenance work or replacement parts are performed later. The GEMÜ R480 Victoria series can be used as a similar replacement to the previous GEMÜ 480 Victoria series because these valves have the same actuator flange and the same installation length.
In general, the outstanding performance of the new GEMÜ butterfly valve is not only its easy-to-maintain and replaceable components, but also mainly because of their higher safety and efficiency. However, by integrating RFID chips, GEMÜ has gone one step further and is ready for Industry 4.0.
With CONEXO, GEMÜ provides an RFID system architecture that can clearly identify vulnerable parts, paperless maintenance and process documentation. The CONEXO application guides maintenance technicians step by step through a fully customizable maintenance workflow.
The new GEMÜ R480 Victoria series offers a variety of nominal sizes, from DN 50 to DN 300, with many new features, and can now be ordered from GEMÜ. The new series has the following versions:
