Higher design flexibility, less gate driver hardware complexity

On December 3, 2020 in Munich, Germany, Infineon Technologies AG released EiceDRIVER™ X3 enhanced analog (1ED34xx) and digital (1ED38xx) gate driver ICs.
These devices provide typical output currents of 3, 6 and 9 A, accurate short-circuit detection, Miller clamp and soft shutdown. In addition, 1ED34xx can provide adjustable desaturation filter time and soft-off current through an external resistor. The combination of these functions speeds up the design cycle by reducing the number of external components. 1ED38xx provides I 2C configurability for multiple parameters. This adds more flexibility to the design, reduces hardware complexity and reduces evaluation time. These gate drivers are suitable for industrial drives, solar systems, uninterruptible power supplies, EV chargers and other industrial applications.
The EiceDRIVER X3 enhanced 1ED34xx and 1ED38xx series are designed for IGBTs and SiC and Si MOSFETs in discrete and module packages. The output current of up to 9 A eliminates the need for external booster components. The CMTI robustness of more than 200 kV/µs avoids wrong switching patterns. Both gate driver series have an absolute maximum output supply voltage of 40 V and a tight propagation delay match of 30 ns (maximum), thereby reducing dead time. The I 2C configurability options of 1ED38xx include short circuit detection, soft shutdown, under voltage lockout (UVLO), Miller clamp and thermal shutdown. The gate driver series also provides a two-stage shutdown function set by software (TLTOff).
The 1ED34xx and 1ED38xx gate drivers are packaged in a small DSO-16 small pitch package with a creepage distance of 8 mm. Both are UL 1577 certified for 5.7 kV RMS, combined with precise thresholds and timing, ensuring excellent application safety. They are designed to withstand harsh industrial application environments.
