The coastline of New Bedford is looking for some outstanding volunteers to join the National Nursing Home Inspector Program. The plan aims to address the concerns of residents of nursing homes and nursing homes in Massachusetts (including Greater New Bedford).
The Ombudsman Program is part of a statewide effort that began in the mid-1970s to improve the lives of residents of nursing homes in Gulf State. According to Annabella Dougherty, Director of Coastline, qualifications include enjoying being with seniors and listening to their concerns.
Dougherty said that this task became more difficult last year due to the pandemic, when contact with nursing home residents was limited to meetings through Zoom. Now, the plan is seeking to increase face-to-face visits again, and hopes to involve more volunteers.
Doherty said that applicants will be interviewed and trained. She said the job can be challenging, but for the right people, it can be very fulfilling.
Amy DiPietro likes to be with the elderly. In addition to her work as a volunteer ombudsman, she is also the full-time director of the Dartmouth Committee on Aging.
DiPiertro said that she likes to help people. The staff of the nursing home are generally very cooperative and try their best to meet the needs of residents.
Townsquare Sunday is a weekly public affairs program broadcast on 1420 WBSM every Sunday morning. The plan highlights individuals and organizations working to make the South Coast a better place to live and work.
If you want your organization to be featured on Townsquare on Sunday, please send an email to jim.phillips@townsquaremedia.com to send an email to the host.
