Several factors should be considered when selecting equipment for handling dry bulk solid materials in gravity flow applications. These include the particle size of the material being treated and the abrasiveness of the material.Another driving factor is the required valve bore size.Several types of sliding doors and diverters may be suitable for handling materials in gravity flow applications.
Roller shutters are ideal for handling dry bulk materials in gravity flow applications where aggressive material closure and dust containment are required.Roller shutters are commonly used in a variety of dry material applications such as blending and blending.Roller gates can be used to close or meter the flow of fine and lightly abrasive powders as well as small to large granules or pellets. It can also handle viscous materials, horizontal or vertical valve orientation and is ideal for the food, chemical, plastics and textile industries.
Curved insert gates are an ideal solution for handling abrasive materials and applications that may require metering. The quick start of the blade controls the material flow rate by quickly starting and stopping the material flow.Curved blade gates are designed to handle highly abrasive materials such as minerals, frac sand, fly ash and whole grains, and dry materials in gravity flow applications that require positive material closure and dust containment.Gates can be equipped with a variety of actuation options, including pneumatic, electric and hydraulic.
Wear-resistant steel sliding doors are designed to meet the most demanding applications when handling heavy abrasive materials such as sand, gravel, coal, whole grains, metal powders or minerals. The gate handles dry material in gravity flow applications that require reliable material closure and dust containment.
Gates are available in a variety of configurations in rectangular sizes and customer-specific hole patterns, with “live-loaded” bonnet seals that extend service life by compensating for wear and provide an excellent material seal between the gate and atmosphere. These seals can be replaced while the valve is still in use, greatly reducing downtime. To extend the life of the sliding gate, the gate has a wear-resistant lining that can be replaced when needed.Sliding doors feature easily accessible hardened steel cam adjustable rollers and polymer blade guides – a feature essential to maintaining a positive seal.
Flap diverters utilize internal angled blades to divert material flow from one source to two, three or more destinations. The diverter can be used with a variety of non-abrasive to moderately abrasive materials and can handle particle sizes as small as 50-75 microns. It is ideal for plastic, food, chemical and agricultural applications that require a dust seal to minimize cross-contamination.Another benefit of the baffle diverter is its ability to direct the flow of material away from the leading edge of the baffle vanes, maintaining seal integrity and inhibiting material leakage through the valve’s closing leg.
Dual sliding door diverters offer a unique design that offers several advantages over traditional flap-type diverters.Their design provides more versatility and reduces the need for additional closing doors.Diverters can divert material in one or both directions and stop the flow completely if necessary. The implementation of positioning control allows simultaneous control of the flow rate through either branch. The dual sliding door diverter also provides sealing and is easy to maintain while in use.
In gravity fed applications, bucket diverters are used to divert heavy and/or abrasive dry bulk solids materials such as sand, gravel, whole grains and coal from one source to two destinations.Optional inlet, chute and bucket liners extend the life of this valve when handling abrasive materials. The diverter’s access panel allows faster access inside the diverter to inspect and clean the valve.Heavy duty wear buckets can also be removed for service through this access panel.
Abrasion resistant steel lined flap diverters are designed for gravity flow applications for handling abrasives such as coal, rock or frac sand that require a sealed environment free from dust and fines. The diverter directs the flow of material away from the leading edges of the baffle vanes. This is critical for maintaining seal integrity and inhibiting material leakage from the valve closing legs.Traditional baffle diverters tend to leak through the blade shaft and trap material below, causing drive issues. The diverter uses shaft seals to eliminate these problems. To extend the life of the diverter, the diverter has a wear-resistant lining that can be replaced when needed, extending the life of the diverter. The wear resistant steel lined flap diverter also comes standard with a removable access panel for inspection, cleaning and maintenance.
Chute diverters are suitable for abrasive materials such as industrial sand, limestone, coal, gypsum, clinker, gravel, bauxite, whole grains and minerals. The body is fitted with an internal chute that rotates to direct the flow of material. The main advantage of this diverter is that there is no need to maintain internal seals.Material wear is addressed in its design, it can be made of or lined with wear resistant material. The shunt can be inspected, maintained or repaired from the front access panel – no need to remove the shunt from service. The diverter is dust-tight to the atmosphere, can be moved “on the fly,” and is available in two-way and three-way configurations.Additionally, the chute can be positioned to divert flow in both directions simultaneously.
Sourcing a sliding door or diverter for gravity flow applications can be a complex process. Each of the above products provides an excellent solution for certain gravity flow applications.Consultation with industry experts is critical when selecting products for your process.Take into account numerous variables to ensure your choice is truly suitable for your specific application.
