Stand-up surfboard is one of the fastest growing water sports in the past ten years. You are most likely familiar with stand-up paddle board surfing, but if you are unfamiliar, this is what you need to know.
Stand-up paddle surfboard (SUPUP) refers to the action of standing on a hard epoxy or inflatable board with tapering ends at both ends, and then using paddles to move in the water. Similar to a surfboard, the paddleboard also has fins at the bottom to help it move and maneuver.
In this review, we studied the overall structure, durability, function and price of each board. We also studied the various boards and paddles that each brand has in the market. Then, we rank each board on several retail platforms in terms of quality, durability, price, and the number of positive reviews.
We will focus on inflatable standing paddles. They are an excellent choice for all experience levels, have multiple uses (fresh water and white water), and do not require special shelves or additional storage space.
The inflatables can be placed in the closet or the trunk of the car, and you can put them on the plane. And they also have many benefits on the water.

In short, the board performs well under all conditions. It is beginner-friendly (and expert-friendly), and if handled properly, it will last for years.
The size is 10’6 inches. This board has a drop seam structure, an EVA-textured grip bottom plate and the brand’s proprietary flexible molded fin board. This means you don’t need to bother with installation or maintenance.
We have used a similar model of Red’s MSL board ($1,299) as well as the removable iFin alternative technology, which does require installation, small screws, and a way to quickly read the instructions.
In terms of size and weight, this board is comparable to the other boards in our list. It can hold up to 240 pounds, is wide enough to provide balance and stability, and weighs only 21 pounds. It is not the lightest, but it is very light and easy to carry, carry and travel.

Hala Rado is a 10’10” plank designed to perform well in both white water and fresh water. It has a fairly progressive rocker profile and a dovetail tail for better performance when moving water. .
This board is definitely suitable for more dynamic oarsmen. However, it will also be very useful for beginners who plan to paddle mainly on the river.
In terms of functionality, we like the bow and handles on the back of the board. Moreover, although the rubber band restraint area is located on the smaller side, there are many other fixing points on the board.
The board weighs 33 pounds and is located on the heavier end. This is mainly due to the use of a stronger structure, double-layer PVC sutures and PVC stringers running through the wood.

BOTE’s Breeze Aero Paddleboard ($649) has received more than 237 four-star and five-star reviews online. As a former Floridian, I believe that this Florida-based brand can make high-quality planks for flat water, ocean and canal paddling.
Breeze Aero is no exception. This is a medium-sized board with excellent versatility and price tag.
New features in 2021: BOTE’s new HD Aero Paddleboard ($999) is also a strong contender for our runner-up. HD Aero is an improvement of BOTE 2020 Breeze Aero, with a redesigned deck and grip handle, updated side rails and its HD structure. This means that the overall structure of the board has been updated to increase stability while keeping the board light.
We tested Breeze not long ago, and BOTE launched a new model: Aero HD ($999), and it turns out that it is also worth reading.
We took the classic teak Aero board out of several spring paddle trips in central and western Colorado. On the first day on the plank, I noticed two things: sturdy, reinforced stitches and structure, and a slightly heavier weight (10’6 inches, a full foot shorter) than planks used at home. Both of these qualities are one of the great strengths of my book.
For a stable 11’6″ plank like this, 30 pounds is a very light weight. The three-fin system and the position of the fins are point-to-point, and the board feels balanced and even.
An important note: I tested all the boards on this list, with or without gear drying bags, to understand how the boards are handled under different weights. Even if the gear is tied to the bow, the board can be smoothly propelled in flat water. Paddling is also an interesting board, especially on overnight trips where you want to cover some ground (such as water).
If you are looking for a longer board with a premium for stability and portability, and the price is less than $1,000, then this is a good choice.
Over the years, I have ridden dozens of brands and styles of paddle boards. However, one of the boards I will continue to discuss is NRS. STAR Phase models ($769 and above) are very durable, inflatable (they save space when compressed), and maintain good overall driving performance in flat and flowing water.
The STAR phase board also has three lengths: 10’2″, 10’6″ and 10’8″. The circuit board uses simple and durable PVC-coated stitches. It also has a sturdy webbed handle and a machine The four D-rings on the head are used to fix the gears.
Although it is an all-round product, I will definitely mark this board as the most suitable for intermediate paddlers. Therefore, as time goes by, it will grow with you.
It comes with a 9-inch fin, and because of the brand’s universal fin, you can easily change the fin to another style according to your paddling position. I have a river fin and a grass fin, and I like the flexibility to adapt my board to different waters.
Through the NRS STAR stage, you will get well-structured, high-quality and affordable circuit boards from reputable brands. However, I want it to have more D-rings and more storage capacity on the board (possibly at the tail).
All three models weigh under 20 pounds. If you are looking for a light and stable board, this is it.
This inflatable travel board is most suitable for traveling in flat waters or milder rivers. The price is $1,249. It has a unique shape with a square tail, 10 anchor points and a 9-inch fin. In terms of traction devices, having 10 anchor points is the key to changing the rules of the game. There is space for attaching coolers, drying bags and even kayak seats.
The 12-foot circuit board length is also located at the longer end of the circuit board, which means you will have a longer distance each time you hit the ball (racing SUP is usually 12-15 feet).
That being said, the board is not designed to increase speed. It is designed for dragging gear, spending good time and staying strong, even in the face of gusts of wind or swaying canines. If stability, portability and surfing style are all aspects you are looking for on a circuit board, we strongly recommend you to check it.
If you are looking for a sturdy and durable board that is not necessarily fast, suitable for travel and multi-day trips, then this board is a good choice.
There is no way to sort all the paddle boards on the market one by one-especially when the models of these boards have changed frequently over the years. Although these paddle boards did not win our overall title of best, they are still excellent boards that rank highly in terms of functionality, durability, and price.
Expert tip: Many blade brands offer interchangeable heat sinks, as well as seats, belts, fixings and gear accessories on their boards. If you want to invest more money in future sports, please consider browsing all the content the brand offers. Some brands are more niche and only manufacture certain types of boards, or they do not provide a full set of accessories.
One of our staff tested the board and liked it. Paddle North, Minnesota, produces particularly gorgeous wood-grain inflatable panels. To match the local waters, many skis in Paddle North face the river for excursions. Therefore, they have a harder, harder feel, and perform well in lake and river cruises.
Portager ($699) is very similar to Loon (hard board, see below). It has the same length (11’6″) and fin settings, making it ideal for cruising in the river, but the shape and weight are slightly different.
Portager’s nose is sharp and tailored to cut into windy or flowing waters. Moreover, its width is slightly wider, leaving room for equipment on the deck.
It is made of 1.2mm short seam PVC. It has a three-layer seam system to provide the highest possible durability (for inflation). Moreover, it weighs only 21 pounds, which is very light. Another advantage we appreciate-universal valve.

Lazy (Paddle North’s flagship epoxy model) has a bamboo structure that keeps the board light but very stable. The size and three-fin tracking means that the board is faster in calm water, but can handle light shredding easily. We can even use a 70-pound Labrador to cruise the lakeshore with a shotgun.
If you are looking for a product with the portability of an epoxy surfboard-style inflatable device, this is a good choice.
You should be careful with any inflatable panels. However, if you are looking for an extra lightweight and durable product that you can pack and put in your suitcase when traveling at home, then this board is a good choice.
Compared to the other products on this list, Hudson ($729) has the best tracking or heat sink quality, but it’s still worth mentioning. why? Durable. Just like, your child can jump up and down excitedly, just a plank.
The removable fin system is fairly standard, as are the shape, length and width. This is the standard for reducing the width of the board, allowing it to slide in calm water.
It is not suitable for taller, heavier paddlers, and there is not enough storage space. But for those who occasionally take a day trip on the beaches and lakes, it is sturdy.
Most paddle boards on the market (and all paddle boards on this list) have the following components: belts, some form of deck pads, D-rings or bungees for storing cargo, at least one fin, and a central catch Hand, of course, a pump.
I think this is more common on SUP than other equipment, but almost every brand will be eliminated or renamed models after a year. (Take the popular NRS Piaget series as an example.)
You may have made up your mind on a particular sector, but take the time to research it. You may also think that there is another board (or board model) that best fits the bill.
Expert tip: If you find that you can buy a circuit board model for several years, please read the specifications carefully and compare with the updated model. It may be that the board may be slightly heavier or have some different features, but it is still worth the investment (especially if you are looking for a starter board and plan to upgrade in the future).
For an inflatable board, its length, size and thickness are directly related to the weight capacity. Therefore, if you only weigh 140 pounds (and want to be faster), you can choose a shorter plank length (and therefore less bulk). If you weigh 180 to 200 pounds or more, or you want to paddle with a dog, child, or partner, consider using a longer length and larger plank.
Do you want to be lightweight? Or do you want a lot of storage space for goods (think dry bags, reefer containers)? In addition, size is purely preferred.
Generally, I recommend everyone to use a larger board. There is more swing space and overall better stability. The most common size board is 10’6″ or 11′. However, there are many lengths, shapes and sizes that exceed this range. Also.
Expert tip: If you are a family shopping, you can buy a longer plank instead of two (or four) planks to save buckets. Two 140-pound adults can sit comfortably on an 11-inch board (appropriate weight and weight limits vary by brand). Another primary consideration when buying a board is what it comes with. This is not always the case, but many motherboards sold now come with paddles, fins and travel bags.

Some packages also include things like patch packs, extra goods or belts to carry, and spare fins. For example, if you know that you want to wear boards on both still waters and rapids (or oceans), invest in a brand with surf fins in its product lineup.
This is self-evident, but the budget is a huge consideration when buying a paddle board. If there is no recommendation or at least no research, I will buy very little equipment.
As you might expect, shooting in the dark and buying circuit boards online from general retailers is not the way to go. Research, plan and choose a famous brand.
If your favorite board is out of your price range, please wait for the sale. Or better yet, join a paddle group, rent one a day, or demonstrate your favorite board through a local retailer.
Expert tip: some clothing suppliers will even sell their demo fleet boards in a few seasons. These are great choices to make yourself successful. Wait, plan, invest.
There is no “best” brand. It’s like saying that Specialized produces the best mountain bikes. They make great people, but in the same class of cars, there are many other great players (for example, Pivot, Santa Cruz, Cannondale and Yeti Cycles).
However, some SUP brands have been around for a long time, so we think they are the best in the market. The list is short: NRS, Blackfin, Starboard, BOTE and Hala Gear. More and more top brands are emerging, including ISLE (founded in 2008) and Glide and Atoll (both established in 2014).
As pointed out in the introduction, in the past 4 to 6 years, the inflatable SUP market has developed rapidly. why? The inflatable board is great. You don’t need special luggage racks, garages or special belts to carry 12-foot, 40-pound gear.
All you need is an oversized backpack and some space in the suitcase. Essentially, the inflatable board shrinks and shrinks. They are easy to carry, easy to maintain and maintain, and expensive.
Even better, almost all inflatable products (all inflatable products we listed) are packaged together: SUP, paddles, backpacks, fins, pumps. No need to purchase any SUP equipment separately.
Having said that, the quality of inflatable materials does vary greatly depending on the material, construction and design. The stability and feel of the circuit board are slightly different.
If you know that you want to invest in this sport, or to paddle in a lot of extreme (cold or white water) conditions, then you will need to spend more time studying the structure of the wood board (welded seams? thicker PVC?) And expected performance in the environment.

Of course, other factors also contribute to stability. However, the width and depth of the side walls and overall shape are great.
The best SUP for beginners is the best SUP for you. For most people, the board has a higher load-bearing capacity, can provide greater stability and adapt to riders of different weights (for example, if you want to share the board with a partner). I almost always recommend inflatable equipment for your first board.
Contrary to the perception of novices, inflatable panels are very durable, can be packaged small, convenient, easy to use and store, and are generally more economical. Even better, if you study on an inflatable SUP, you will get a huge balance when you decide to deal with the ocean or rapids or upgrade to an epoxy board.
My suggestion is to look for an inflatable board with a length of at least 10’8”-11′ and a weight of at least 230 pounds.
