Longview, Texas police chief retires after 32 years of service

32 years in any job is a huge achievement. Now add the fact that these 32 years in law enforcement and serving the community make it even more impressive.Details were shared earlier this week on the Longview, Texas Police Department Facebook page as Police Chief Mike Bishop is putting away his handcuffs and preparing to retire.
According to the City of Longview’s website, the chief bishop first joined the Longview Police Department in July 1989, starting as a patrol officer.Throughout his career, he has performed all jobs, including detective, patrol sergeant, crisis intervention negotiator, and many others.Plain and simple, he was always willing to do whatever was needed in law enforcement for his family, as well as finding the community he called home.
After more than 6 years in the role, many in Longview will miss the opportunity to meet the Chief. But he won’t be a stranger in East Texas, as he will be a professor and coordinator of the public administration program in Taylor Junior College’s Department of Law and Public Service Careers. The chief bishop has been teaching for the past eleven years.
Longview’s next police chief needs to be recommended by the city manager and then approved by the city council. There is no word on who that person might be or when they might take over the role.
Archbishop, thank you!Just know that the citizens of East Texas, especially Longview, really appreciate what you have done for the past 32 years of service.Enjoy your retirement!
