Rheinmetall has won two important commercial vehicle back pressure valve orders. A well-known Chinese engine manufacturer ordered a smart electronic reversing back pressure valve for a 12-liter diesel engine. At the same time, a South American customer has ordered pulse width modulated back pressure valves for 3.8 liter and 4.5 and 6.7 liter engines from the company. Parts designated for China will be delivered between 2021 and 2025. Based on the principle of “local for local”, the valve will be produced in China. Instead, the components planned to be shipped to South America will be manufactured at Rheinmetall’s plant in Ústi nad Labem, Czech Republic, and shipped between 2022 and 2027. The total value of these two orders is 37 million euros, excluding VAT. The two orders will be coordinated by Pierburg GmbH of Neuss, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, an expert in environmentally friendly components related to emissions.
The back pressure valve helps reduce engine exhaust emissions and optimize fuel consumption. The valve is integrated into the engine control management through a customer-specific interface, and the flexible adjustment of the flange geometry allows the valve to be installed on different types of vehicles. In addition, motor concepts suitable for various durability requirements are now also available. In summary, this is a very effective emission management tool.
