Rotork’s part-turn smart electric actuators have been installed in multiple gas pressure reduction stations in Belgium to provide reliable flow control without releasing undesirable greenhouse gas emissions.
Rotork has a long history with Fluxys Belgium. The company operates 4000 kilometers of pipelines, an LNG terminal and an underground storage facility in Belgium.
The IQT actuators ordered by Fluxys Belgium operate butterfly valves on boilers in unattended gas pressure reduction stations across Belgium, reducing the pressure of natural gas so that it can flow through networks operating at lower pressures or be transmitted to end-consumer facilities .This operation cools the natural gas, so the natural gas needs to be preheated by the boiler to keep the downstream temperature within a certain range.
The existing actuators at these sites use the gas in the pipeline as a control medium, causing greenhouse gas emissions to be released into the atmosphere. To avoid these emissions and reduce Fluxys Belgium’s environmental footprint, Rotork Site Services and local agent Prodim installed electric actuators. The valve regulates the gas flow in this process. The boiler will now provide more precise adjustment tasks, be reliable and prevent any emissions from previous pneumatic actuators.
The installation of the IQT actuator achieves extremely precise flow control, no emissions, easy setup, diagnosis and reliable operation.Rotork field service retrofits IQT to existing valves at multiple sites, and cooperates with Prodim to provide installation kit design and execution, on-site installation, commissioning and training. The IQT actuator is a part-turn version of the IQ3 actuator, which is Rotork’s leading series of intelligent electric actuators.Even without power, they always provide continuous position tracking. They meet the explosion-proof requirements of international standards and are waterproof (double-sealed to IP66/68 at 20 m, can be used for 10 days).
