Anita Rogers Gallery is thrilled to present Is Embracing Was, an exhibition of mixed media assemblages by Dutch-born artist, Hans Neleman. The exhibition will be on view September 6 – October 7, 2017 at the gallery’s new location at 15 Greene Street, Ground Floor, New York, New York. There will be a reception with the artist on Thursday, September 21, 6-8pm. This collection of recent assemblages includes both steel-framed "portraits" and "abstractions." Neleman’s distinctive works inhabit the space between abstraction and representation. The playful yet dark "portraits" pull together found objects and fragmented images while the "abstractions" are composed using raw paper and fabric, cut, torn and reconnected with metal, canvas and wood. Both series are ripe with rich eroticism, spirituality and texture; with a nod to history, Neleman creates contemporary objects that feel at once living in the past, present and future. Renowned art advisor, collector and Whitney Museum patron Thea Westreich describes Neleman’s assemblage work as, "embedded with a unique and original vocabulary, from where abstract and intuitive visual narratives and associations flow with poetic rawness."

Seu Jorge, one of Brazil’s most talented contemporary singers, rose to international fame in the Wes Anderson film The Life Aquatic. In his acclaimed role, Seu Jorge performed several of David Bowie’s songs in the film—but in a twist, he did it in Portuguese, accompanying himself simply on acoustic guitar. After three sold out shows at The Town Hall in 2016, Seu Jorge returns to NYC with his tribute to Bowie live at Beacon Theatre on September 27th. Obama’s new plan is to send a manned vehicle to an asteroid. Am I wrong in assuming that he means to send people to the asteroid belt, beond Mars, or would it be some rouge asteroid? He was so quick to cancel the Constellation programme, which would have got us back to the Moon and beond, and now this? Sounds preposterous to me. IF, these new space exploration adventures are to evolve, going back to the Moon is PARAMOUNT, in order to test the new vehicles and crew. It happened in the ’60s with Gemini, Apollo 7, etc, before going to the Moon on Apollo 8. I think that a lot of un-manned trips to Mars are necessary, previuos to a manned journey to leave things like fuel, consumables, and even a habitat, of some kind to arrive to. Have seen the high-res Apollo landing site images on the local news, which is terrific!
