The solo guise of multifaceted artist Ren Schofield, Container became one of avant-garde electronic label Spectrum Spools’ most intriguing artists. The Nashville, Tennessee producer released his first LP — simply titled LP — on John Elliot’s (Emeralds) curated Editions Mego offshoot label. A mind-warping crunch of electronics, smashed techno loops, and distortion spread over just five tracks, LP was a visceral assault on the senses and won Schofield wild acclaim and applause in 2011. He quickly followed this with another album — again named LP — in 2012. Pelada Montréal electronic duo, Pelada, have resonated with audiences for their recontextualized blend of Chicago house, Detroit techno with more abstract & abrasive club music. Chris Vargas’ lyrics, delivered in Spanish, explore themes of power, surveillance, social, environmental and gender politics. Young Male Young Male is a techno project begun in 2008 by Quinn Taylor, a producer and dj based in Brooklyn, New York. He is the co-founder of the New York crew/record label White Material, a group of techno, house and noise musicians. His live performances utilise a Roland TR909 drum machine, mixer, guitar fx pedals, and eerie sound textures.

In this two-session workshop participants will work with a new type of sustainable material made from agricultural waste and mycelium, the branching, rootlike structure of mushrooms. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s interest in plant structures and integrating buildings into their natural environments, participants will consider what organic architecture means in the age of biotechnology. In the first session, on September 21, participants will learn about mycelium, how it has been used in architectural projects, and the wider ecological ideas involved. They will then design their own object and create a mold, which will be 3-D printed offsite. In the second session, on September 28, participants will learn how to grow the mycelium material inside their molds and take their objects home. No design, fabrication, or software knowledge is required.

All the moonwalks were planned with a timeline for each location they stopped at. What may have happened is that they couldn’t quite figure out where they were. It was sometimes hard to get bearings on which craters they were by especially with the angle of the sun. Many times in the moonwalks they got off the planned path a bit.

The other Nature paper, led by David Thornalley of University College London, took a much longer-term look at changes in the AMOC. They studied deep-sea sediment to gather hints at the currentâs makeup over time. They found that the AMOC was actually relatively stable from the year 400 AD until about 1850. This period coincides with the so-called Little Ice Age. The authors say that glaciers from the Little Ice Age started melting largely due to natural climate variability at the start of the Industrial Era, and that’s what began feeding freshwater to the North Atlantic.
