oin actress/singer Gloria Reuben for a fun night celebrating the fantastic Ladies of Motown! From The Supremes, to The Marvelettes, to Mary Wells, and more, Great Ladies of Motown will be sure to please everyone! Gloria’s first version of her template celebrating women in music began with her show LADIES’ NIGHT: Great Ladies of Song, which she performed at Feinstein’s/54 Below in March 2017, singing songs from KD Lang and Ella Fitzgerald to Alanis Morisette and Sade. Her new show Great Ladies of Motown is the first of many sequels to the original LADIES’ NIGHT! Gloria is known as an Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominated actress with acclaimed roles in, among other TV series, ER, Raising the Bar, Falling Skies, and Mr. Robot. The highlight of her film career was co-starring alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field in Steven Spielberg’s film Lincoln, where she portrayed Elizabeth Keckley. Even though known as an actress, music has always been a big part of this Toronto-born multitalented artist’s life. She even took time off from her acting career to tour as a backup singer for Tina Turner in Ms. Turner’s tour 24/7! Now Gloria can’t wait to show yet another side of her musical talent while honoring the exquisiteness of the female Motown voice. As All About Jazz wrote: "Though the actress/singer is more well-known as an actress, she could have just as easily broken through as a singer."

Although not mandatory, In April 2014 IMO published MEPC Circular 833 Guidelines for the reduction of underwater noise from commercial shipping to prevent negative impact on marine life.

“Rockland Reverso” is an assemblage of photographs by Laurie Peek, all taken in Rockland County. Peek’s photojournalistic work straddles the line between documentary and fine art, subtly transcending the ordinariness of its subject matter. The photographs are vibrant, fluid surfaces that animate the inanimate with gestural boldness. These documentary photographs of real places, are allusive images that convert the mundane into the magical. The resulting dream-like, painterly abstractions invite the viewer to see the world afresh and speculate on the unrevealed referent. Peek received her MFA in Photography from SUNY Buffalo and has worked for publications that included The Brooklyn Paper and The Village Voice covering crime, protests and politics. Her work has been featured in such publications as The Village Voice, The Progressive and The New York Times. She was in the Oscar-nominated documentary film “Tupac: Resurrection” and the 2012 documentary film “Koch.” Rockland Reverso will be on view Sept. 10 – Oct. 1, 2017. September 29, 2017 Friday, 7:30 PM (le) poisson rouge 158 Bleecker St, Manhattan $30 advance / $35 day of show | 18+ Standing room only with limited unreserved seating The now legendary Group Doueh have been playing in and around their native Dakhla, in the Western Sahara for over 27 years. The discovery of the group by Sublime Frequencies, via a song snatched from a AM radio broadcast in Morocco in 2005 (as well as an exploratory mission in 2006 that landed Hisham Mayet in the group’s compound after chasing an overland trail from Tangiers all the way to the Mauritanian border) sealed the band’s relationship with the label. A successful European tour with label mate Omar Souleyman in 2009 ensued and western audiences were finally able to witness the power of the group’s mighty live shows. Doueh’s guitar heroics and wife Halima Jakani and Bashiri Touballi’s soaring vocal interplay entranced all who were present. In 2010 Doueh hosted Tony Allen in his home town and joined in on some of his dates in Europe. Then they returned to Europe in May 2011 with new album Zunya Jamma in tow, delivering a blistering set at the Animal Collective curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival and sending the atmosphere sky bound everywhere they traveled including a heroic USA tour in 2011 that entranced all American audiences alike. For the first time in 6 years, Group Doueh will return to the USA. The band is still a family affair with sons, El Waar and Hamdan respectively on synth and drums added to the already potent mix of searing Saharan modes filtered through Doueh’s maximalist electric guitar and tidnit mastery and Halima Jakani’s soaring spiritual vocals charting the music into the cosmos. Opening for Group Doueh will be Innov Gnawa, a local young musical collective dedicated to exploring Morocco’s venerable gnawa music tradition in NYC. On 10/2 there will be a film screening of "Oulaya’s Wedding" (a documentary about the week-long celebration of Doueh and Halima’s eldest daughter, Oulaya) at The New School (55 W 13th Street). Rich and intimate, the beautiful film provides an insightful look at not only the lavish wedding celebration of the daughter of the leader of Group Doueh but also the lives of the people of Dakhla – their music, ceremonies, and homes. Followed by a Q&A with director Hisham Mayet. Tickets $15 Free for WMI members, The New School students, and staff (please bring New School ID). WMI members please RSVP.
