flange check valve

Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valve can properly diffuse the marine wastewater discharge in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Istanbul Water Authority has a biological wastewater treatment plant that serves approximately 15 million people in Istanbul, Turkey. In order to comply with stricter environmental regulations, the Water Authority contacted the Marine Consulting Group (MCG) in the spring of 2017 to find suitable products to provide adequate diffusion for its marine wastewater discharge.
MCG worked with Proco to design and design the duckbill diffuser to accommodate the sewage treatment plant’s sewage outlet through an 87-inch diameter steel pipe. The pipeline extends 1.35 miles (2230 meters) along the bottom of the ocean and discharges 154 feet below sea level.
Proco needs to keep some challenges in mind for this project. The concern is that the diffuser and the duckbill check valve may be damaged by the ship passing over. In order to solve this problem, Proco needs to determine the appropriate diffuser length. In this project, the diffuser length is about 741.5 feet at the farthest end of the 1.5-mile jump anti-fall tube.
In the past, engineers and contractors were often required to make blind hole flange connections to certain ports so that they would operate at a lower flow rate and open to allow maximum flow in the future. Calculate the maximum flow rate to handle the sewage rate for the next 20 years. However, the current flow rate will not work at maximum output. Therefore, Proco and MCG need to design an appropriate size check valve to alleviate this concern.
MCG recommended that the Water Authority use the Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valve in this project, with two 10-inch drains for each port. Duckbill check valve with diameter (250 mm).
The duckbill valve is used to prevent backflow in the deep sea sewage outlet/diffuser project. The Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valve avoids blind caps on certain ports during the first few years of operation. In addition, the use of Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valves eliminates the need for blind hole flanges because the pipeline can run efficiently from the first startup, thereby reducing maintenance work and reducing the time for divers to add additional valves in the future.
The duckbill check valve is used in this project to prevent salt water from entering the pipeline when there is no inlet pressure. When the head pressure is low or there is no inlet flow, the difference in head pressure between sea water and drain water will cause sea water to enter the pipeline. If this backflow is not prevented, the port may be blocked or blocked, and marine life may enter the pipeline. As a result, the calculated and designed dilution ratio cannot be obtained. The duckbill check valve can increase the jet velocity and provide a different dilution value from traditional flap gates, even at lower flow rates.
In addition, the engineering elastomer of the Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valve can maintain its memory after being kept open or closed for a long time, and the valve is 100% resistant to barnacles and algae, which is an important feature of salt Water conservancy project. Proco’s engineering team also provided comprehensive assistance in providing head loss calculations.
After installing the Proco ProFlex 710 duckbill check valve, fill the completed assembly with air to maintain buoyancy, then drag it to a certain position, and then drop it to the bottom of the sea. This puts the Proco 710 valve into operation and allows proper blowdown diffusion through each of the 46 valves. The system has been fully operational in the region, and Proco continues to provide assistance and engineering knowledge comparable to this system on a global scale.
The Rainwater Solutions staff invites industry professionals to nominate what they consider the most outstanding and innovative water and wastewater projects to be recognized in the Annual Reference Guide. In the past 18 months, all projects must be in the design or construction phase.
