Now is the new year and time of the resolution, so this is mine: I didn’t go out with a mask until spring. When I get to the farmer¡¯s market, I will wash for 30 seconds. I found that our kitchen sink would not be clogged.
Since many of our favorite restaurants are closed and my commute time has been reduced from bedroom to home office to 30 seconds, I have more time to cook. Why do I still want to eat out when I can access the best chef recipes in the world on my tablet?
One of the reasons is because the formula is complicated: I don’t know what “smooth beaten egg white” looks like, or the cream of tartar is not what you put on the fish and chips.
Another problem is that our kitchens are not equipped with the equipment like Cordon Bleu: We have never invested in an eight-burner stove or commercial refrigerator, and of course we have not purchased industrial-powered waste disposal equipment.
My family treats garbage as a giant garbage compactor. If there is something that we don¡¯t want to see anymore, sticky, foul-smelly, squishy or rough, it will drive along the highway for disposal, resulting in waste.
At least that was something that happened in the past. Now, when we try to digest food waste, our disposal makes all kinds of harmful hiss and growls. It will never remove all the debris, just like what happens when you sneeze while eating spicy tacos.
One night after dinner, the body returned to the sink in the kitchen. My wife insisted that I solve the problem, only to find out that every meal would cost twice. I decided to test disposal methods to see the most difficult to digest food categories. Rotten bananas fall easily, as are mushy raspberries and soaked blueberries. But banana peels, oranges, or anything with a rind are struggling. This disposal sounds like fighting the citrus, rather than sending it into the sewer.
With no satisfactory answers, I have been doing what I have always done when facing insurmountable home renovation challenges: I called my super contractor friend Dave.
I told him what I had fed, and he shot. Obviously, as Dave explained patiently, anything I put down for garbage disposal actually doesn’t belong there. Most, if not all, should be placed in the trash can or compost pile, which brings me to the question: “What should I throw away?”
This is a screen filter that can be installed on the drain, allowing you to catch most of the debris and then put them in the trash can. The filter can be disposed of normally, the pipeline is unobstructed, and it only costs a few dollars.
Now, our disposal “screams hoarse like a kitten” and there is no waste in the sink, which just proves what I have been saying: “If I can’t figure it out, and I know I can’t, my friend Dave can .”
