How Cleveland’s Hyperloop will propel you to 700 mph

Cleveland-The team behind the Cleveland Hyperloop project unveiled a new design breakthrough in the development of this new mode of transportation on Tuesday. The team behind the HyperloopTT Cleveland project has introduced a full-size valve that will be able to isolate a given section of the pipe for easy repressurization during maintenance or emergency situations. The company behind the valve said in a video release that it is 16.5 feet tall, weighs 77,000 pounds, and can be fully opened or closed in 30 seconds.
“This is one of the largest vacuum valves ever made, and one of the really amazing things is the force that the valve can withstand,” said Ken Harrison, President and CEO of GNB KL Group. “There are 288,000 pounds of force acting on the gate of this valve. There are about 72 cars or one diesel locomotive.”
“Partnering with HyperloopTT allows us to demonstrate our world-class capabilities in vacuum components and technology,” Harrison said. “We build special valves and chambers for fusion reactors, government science laboratories, etc., so HyperloopTT’s pioneering transportation system is a perfect project for us.”
In most emergency situations, the capsule will be parked at a predetermined emergency station along the length of the route to leave the capsule and pipeline infrastructure. As a redundant emergency response option, the HyperloopTT system re-pressurizes various parts of the isolation tube. If the space capsule cannot be stopped at the predetermined exit, the illuminated emergency channel in the decompression tube will guide passengers to the emergency hatch to safely leave the infrastructure.
GNB started working with HyperloopTT engineers in 2019. Once completed, the valve will be shipped to the HyperloopTT plant in Toulouse, France for integration and certification.

HyperloopTT is looking for a line that will connect Cleveland to Chicago in half an hour, and a line to Pittsburgh in 10 minutes. The company first introduced the concept three years ago this month, and hopes they can open and operate the route from Cleveland to Chicago ten years later.
