Intermot: 2019 Suzuki RM-Z250 Full Details Released

Full details have been released for the 2019 Suzuki RM-Z250, which features numerous upgrades over the current model, including an all-new chassis and upgraded engine.
Now in its 12th year of production, the MX2 machine (the second tier of motocross) is inspired by the Suzuki RM-Z450 and has increased rigidity with a new frame and swingarm and a new rear shock The brakes and updated fork improve handling.
Changes to the RM-Z250 engine are designed to increase power by 5 percent across the rev range.Airflow has been improved through the use of new cylinder heads, intake and exhaust ports, and a 30 percent larger air filter aperture.
A second injector was added close to the airbox to improve the fuel/air mixture, and the main injector in the throttle body was angled up to hit the butterfly valve directly. All of this means improved fueling and throttle response.
Weight reduction is the name of the game, with a new and improved frame design.Suzuki engineers have managed to reduce the weight of the last frame by 370 grams, while also increasing torsional stiffness by 10 percent.
Improvements continue with the new hydroformed swingarm, which uses a tapered cross-section to maintain stiffness despite being 80 grams lighter than the outgoing version.
Changes to the bars, pegs and seat adjust the rider’s position on the bike and make it easier for them to get around.
KYB offers fully adjustable suspension, but here’s what’s changed. The air fork on the outgoing model makes way for the spring, and the MotoGP-derived thin-wire diameter spring on the rear shock saves 370 grams.
All this new power and torque means the new RM-Z250 needs plenty of stopping power, too, thanks to new front brakes with larger discs and enhanced grip from new Dunlop tires. The front disc has been changed from 250mm to 270mm, while new brake pads will also improve rider feel.
Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) offers riders two modes to advance or retard ignition timing for faster off the line depending on the road surface.
In both modes, S-HAC is deactivated after 6 seconds and the ignition returns to normal timing when the rider shifts into fourth gear or when the throttle is off.
The traction control system differs from the road version in that it ignores rear wheel slip. The ECU monitors throttle position, engine speed and gear position and uses this information to adjust ignition timing and fuel injection rate for maximum traction.
An ECU update and dual injectors on the 2019 model year will mean improved overall traction control.
The 2019 RM-Z250 will be available from authorized Suzuki dealers in Spring 2019, pricing to be announced.
